Most people are probably expecting this blog to be about our amazing adventure walking the Inca Trail and seeing Machu Picchu...however in true Katie style she got ill! She woke up the morning we were supposed to leave New Zealand with a very swollen throat, unable to drink or even breathe properly. We managed to find an emergency doctor clinic not too far from the hostel that we immediately went to. Unfortunately they deemed Katie unfit to fly as she had severe tonsillitis and a possible abscess growing on her left tonsil. So we had to start the progress of changing our South American flights to a later date. After spending a day in hospital on a drip full of liquids and steroids we were sent back to the hostel with lots of antibiotics to try and get her fit and healthy as soon as possible.
We then spent a couple of days in a fancy hotel, in Auckland, with room service and a movie channel before heading back to Sydney for a week to properly rest up with family. Due to all this time getting better we missed the beginning of our trip in Bolivia and walking the Inca Trail. Luckily we were able to get fights to Arequipa in Peru where we met the group and continued travelling with them.
